Event Details

Poe Baltimore Art Installation

Edgar Allan Poe’s “body” and casket will lie in state at the Laurel Museum beginning October 29 and running through-November 28. The re-enactment of the dark and somber day the poet was laid to rest is a Poe Baltimore interactive art installation that explores the mysterious circumstances of Poe’s death in Baltimore in 1849 and how the very clothes in which he was found are a tantalizing clue to the mystery of his final days. Visitors will see a reproduction of period clothes similar to what he wore, and can also pay respects at a special Halloween candle-light vigil for the master of horror and mystery. Donations benefit the Laurel Historical Society and The Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum in Baltimore NOTE: Death and funeral imagery (including “body” in an open casket), may not be suitable for young children. Viewer discretion advised. The Laurel Museum is located at 817 Main Street, Laurel, MD. Hours are Fri-Sat-Sun 12-4. 301-725-7975. www.laurelhistoricalsociety.org.
